I’ve been searching for a book for YEARS and I still can’t find it. It was a book with 3 teenage girls in a dormitory/boarding school. There was magic involved and some sort of danger (maybe a person coming there to harm them?). One of the girls’ dad shows up with a warning about the danger in the middle of the night. I’ve done google searches for years and I cannot find this book. It was a YA book from the library. Not sure if it was a series or not….

Definitely “Down a Dark Hall” by Lois Duncan. The heroine (first-person perspective) had the nickname of Kit. The students were psychics (unbeknownst to them) who (also unbeknownst to them) were being used by the spirits of geniuses (painters, pianists, mathematicians, etc.) who had died before completing their various masterpieces.
At night, the students would be taken over by these spirits who would force them to spend their time composing or writing or whatever… the headmistress of the institution had a son (Jules was his name) who was aiding and abetting her. It was later discovered that all the other students in the school (which moved around over the years) had either gone insane or committed suicide.
At the end of the book, there was a huge fire in the mansion/school and the book ended with Kit trying to save as many students as she could before running outside to be rescued.
