I’m searching for a YA (maybe Children’s?) book about a girl with a chronic illness in a NYC hospital. She meets a friend in the hospital and they sit in the stairwell looking at the bridges and think of the lights strung above the bridges as necklaces. The girl with the chronic illness is reluctant to reveal her diagnosis, but it’s clear she’s been in the hospital a long time. Parents aren’t allowed to visit so the girls only have each other.
I don’t quite remember the necklace detail but it’s possible… Just Like Always by Elisabeth Ann Sachs?
