I’m looking for a young adult fiction book that was owned by my father (born in the mid-1950s), and read by me decades later about a boy and girl visiting or exploring somewhere in the Southwest United States.
They find something secret out in the hills (a mine, a cave, or some other secret) and try to learn more about the man trying to keep it secret. He is the antagonist and an adult whose love of canned Del Monte peaches is mentioned on more than one occasion along with describing a heap of empty peach can in the corner of the cave.
Another odd recollection is that the antagonist (the man) had a big Winchester rifle in one of the old (now obsolete) Winchester buffalo hunting calibers like 45-90, 50-90 or 50-110.

I am trying to remember the name of a book I read in the 80s. It was written for teenagers and was about a group of delinquent teenagers (Possibly all boys) I’m sure it was called something like the untouchables (buy not the untouchables). It had a light brown/yellow cover with dark brown writing (I think).sorry this is so vague.  Please can you help Suggestion: The Outsiders by SE Hinton

My question is about a favorite book I think was published in the 1970s. The main character is around 14, studying dance, I believe set in NYC. She was often practicing “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” for a recital. She was frequently called “red ruby lips” by a teenage boy who would see her at the subway station after dress rehearsal. Her controlling mother with whom she had somewhat of a strained relationship had cancer and died by the end; she then decides to quit dance, since it was more her mother’s dream. I think I remember her placing her ballet slippers in her mother’s casket. Solved by Lost Classics readers Julie W and Sheesh: A Star for the Latecomer by Bonnie and Paul Zindel

I’m looking for a book that I read in the mid-1970’s and, as memory serves, the description of the characters indicates the book was written in the early to mid-1970’s.

A teenage brother and sister are orphaned. The remaining grandparents divide the sister and brother. The brother goes to live with their grandfather (not sure if maternal or paternal but was not the spouse of the grandmother). The grandfather lives in a rural area and the boy loves living with him. They do lots of “outdoorsy” stuff. The girl goes to live with her grandmother (also not sure if maternal or paternal, but definitely was not the spouse of the grandfather) who likes a more cosmopolitan setting, seemed cranky and had to keep to a strict budget to live her cosmopolitan life. The grandmother took the granddaughter to stay at a hotel in, possibly, Switzerland each year – very formal setting. The grandmother complained that her granddaughter was costing her money. I believe the girl had a relationship with a boy at some point. The brother and sister stayed in touch, but barely. I don’t remember the ending.

This was a library book I read in the 1960s. It might have “White Horse” in the title. Cover had a painting of an abstract white horse running on a beach. It was about 3 (or maybe 4?) very different sisters spending a summer somewhere away from home. Different chapters were from each of their points of view.  I think there may have been a mother also.  I remember that one of the sisters built a very elaborate dollhouse in the attic with lots of very detailed tiles, plants etc. Another sister had something to do with the horse, either real or imagined.

I am looking for a book title I think was published in the 1970s. The plot: the storyline starts with the heroine in her late twenties living with her aunt (or other women relative) in NYC (?). The heroine had had a baby in her late teens (she had run away and was hooked on drugs). Her rich father had found her just after she gave birth and gave the baby to the heroine’s sister and brother-in-law to raise without the heroine knowing this. She has wondering what happed to the baby. The sister, brother-in-law, “niece”, and their younger son come to stay with the aunt and the heroine due to financial troubles. The “niece” is surly and difficult to get along with. The heroine is friends with the sister’s ex-boyfriend who worked for her father. The brother-in-law is murdered. The heroine figures out her “niece” is her child but decides to not tell the niece. The ex-boyfriend admits loving the heroine at the end of the book. I remember the cover had pink in it with a drawing of the heroine and the ex-boyfriend on it. Any help is appreciate

Trying to find the name or author of a book I read, probably in 1978-1980 time frame. It was called, “Out of Bounds” – it was probably like a scholastic book I ordered from school. It was about a girl who played basketball and had to play on the boys team, there was a crush or romance involved. Any idea of the author? Where I could find it? I am pretty sure it was called “Out of Bounds” Suggestion: Out of Bounds by Lori Boatright

I am a retired English teacher who was asked to try to find a book title for one of my son’s friends. They are now in their 30’s and she’s trying to recall a book assigned to them in 5th grade, which would’ve been 1993-94. The teacher — who was pretty conservative — assigned The Westing Game, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and A Wrinkle in Time.

The book in question was a mystery. The copies of the book the kids were given were worn, so the story might be older. For the bright, fifth grade girl who read it the book was an easy read but very engaging. (She was annoyed not to be allowed to read ahead.) The book may have been set between the 1960’s-1980’s, but she’s not sure. One of the main characters was a Black adult male. He befriended a kid and the two of them were linked through the story, but the reader can’t recall if the kid was male or female. There was something about treasure in a cavern and also hidden tunnels or passageways in a house (maybe Underground Railroad?).

Suggestion from an Anonymous Lost Classics reader: Not the right race of the older male figure, but could be Mandie and the Secret Tunnel by Lois Gladys Leppard.

I am searching for a name of a book I read as a child-  maybe in late 70’s or early 80’s.  I thought it was called The Silver Ring but I can’t find anything by that title.  It was terrifying in that a young girl came home to find her house either burned or her family was killed somehow.  I don’t really remember much else, but it involved a silver ring.  Does this ring any bells at all?  Thanks so much! The Silver Crown by Robert C.
