I have been searching for years for a book of short stories for girls. I believe it was published in the sixties. I vaguely remember the title being “Stories for Young Girls”. One of the stories was about a girl who didn’t have friends. Her grandmother (as I recall) bought her a St. Bernard puppy to force her to take it out for walks and get out of her house to hopefully meet people. The puppy was very rambunctious and attracted a lot of attention. When people approached the dog, they typically asked “Will he bite?” So the girl named the dog “Willie Bite.” She meets a boy and ends up having a social life. I also remember from that same story that she ate a Sunday dinner of pork and baked beans! I would so love to find this collection of stories for my own granddaughters!

I read a book in the 1980s about a girl (maybe 12yo) who’s mother was mentally ill and/or an alcoholic. They get evicted/move a lot, they were poor, she is picked on in school, she may have had a younger sibling. There was time spent telling about Mom gets a job and they get a place to live and mom is trying to make it feel like a home. Meanwhile the girl is holding her breath and waiting for everything to unravel again. I think mom goes through several unhealthy relationships. I THINK it was written in the girl’s perspective.

I’ve been searching for this book for a while now. The narrator of the story is a male detective who travels to this small town to solve the cold case of a teenage girl who was mysteriously murdered in the woods. The detective interviews a variety of people in the town . He meets this one woman who was friends with the girl who died when they were teenagers. The woman has a fear of bridges. He also interviews this other woman who lives with her brother who is described as being mentally ill.
Later on in the story we discover that the woman was in a secret lesbian relationship with the girl who died, and they were spotted together in the woods or on a beach by the boy who was mentally ill. The boy went home that night after spotting the girls together and tells his sister who then orders the boy to murder the girl .

This would have been written in late 80s or early 90s. Tells the story of a family whose son committed suicide by hanging. After his death the parents take in a foster son who is the same age as their son. He begins taking on the late son’s identity. I am almost certain one of the character’s names was Solomon. The dad is searching for answers about his son’s death and finds the boy’s computer password under the keyboard and I think he discovers the mom was secretly abusing the son.
Thanks for any help in figuring this out. It’s been driving me bonkers for years.

I want to say it would be classified as YA sci-fi but not like Star Trek or Star Wars-stype…more like realism sci-fi?
i read it in the late 80s/early 90s
it is set in the then-future (think 21st century?)
a girl learns her parents are hiding things from her – including an older sister she never knew about. then she starts wondering if she was adopted because nothing is making sense aout timelines and photos and whatnot.
somehow, she transports back in time to when her parents were younger/in school? or maybe when her older sister was in high school?
i recall that she (main protagonist) goes to school with her past-family person and gets into trouble about wearing trousers (girls having not been allowed to wear pants in school until like the 70s?)
the girl ends up going back to her timeline in the end and has a better understanding of her mom/family – apparently her parents froze embryos to fund their future wealthy lifestyle or something like that
i know it’s a super longshot, but i’m hoping you can help me. this book has been haunting my dreams lately – like ‘you need to find this book’-style.

Searching for a book from probably 70’s early 80’s. It’s about witches and goblins.
It was a large hardcover illustrated book. Not thick. For some reason the colour of purple is stuck in my head. Not sure if it’s versed but wasn’t a novel.
I was in grade school and signed it out from the school library so it was probably prior to 1980. I’m in Canada so not sure if that matters.
I have reached out to some of my grade school friends to see if they recall anything.
If you find any please let me know! Very much appreciated.

This was a ya book about a teen model who lived in New York. She had a friend that she went home with and met her brother whom she liked. I believe her mother had moved to NY with her leaving behind her father and her brother in their home town. I looked through all the others you have posted and none matched. I already checked out the All That Glitters books and hey do not match either. Help would be appreciated!

I’m looking for a book that I read when I was home from school and really sick – either in ‘79 or maybe as late as ‘82. I’m not sure if it was YA or not but feel like the cover was blue with a painted illustration. The only thing I really remember is that the protagonist was a young girl, a thief – maybe jewelry??? She is running away from something bad. She also gets a partner who is a huge guy but maybe named Tiny. The partner gets shot and dies (totally shocking to me at the time). When he dies he is holding a suitcase and everything spills out. There is something about pearls in the death scene. There was also a big, old car that was significant. I remember thinking the book wasn’t appropriate for someone my age.
Trying to recall this novel has plagued me for years. Hope you can help.

I’m looking for a book that I read in the late 80s or early 90s (could be a scholastic book) It was about two young girls who met in an apartment building and both had crazy dreams every certain number of days that they were compelled to tell each other about and they work together to interpret what they meant. One of the first dreams was about a Four eyed monster and the other was about a bunch of teens swimming in the the sea. It was interpreted to mean the apartment numbers of the girls…4i (four eye) and 18C (a teen sea). They interpreted the dreams to try to figure something out about maybe their parents? I don’t really remember anything else but it’s been driving me crazy for years!!!
