It was a YA novel. The family was all women, I think in Vermont or New Hampshire, the main character was a girl. I think one of the twists was that her mom wasn’t really her mom or something. The aunt painted their room all the time, one time it was tangerine walls with Avocado trim. They could all fly. This wasn’t common in the world it was just this family. Grandmother, mother, aunt, maybe a second aunt. The cover was a girl flying like a bird over a New England countryside. They flew once they were 16 or something, maybe just some nights and not every night?

I’ve been trying to figure out what this book is…it’s stuck with me for years. I read it in the late 80s/early 90s in my school library. I think it might have had moon in the title. It was about a girl who had a figurine of a horse that turned real at night (maybe in the moonlight?). She rode it at night. It was a pretty typical girl with a horse book but what was really shocking/scandalizing when I read it is she had a male friend named Goddard (the name stuck with me! Lol) and she and Goddard end up having sex in a tunnel or something? Which seemed SO out of left field for what was otherwise a pretty standard middle grade girl-with-magical-horse book.

I have a book that’s been haunting me for years now, and I’d love to figure out what it was called. I remember the cover had a girl in overalls, and was maybe black and white. It was about a young girl who lived with her brothers and cousins, she was the only girl besides her mother and grandmother. And she was very close to her brother, and they would trace each others names onto the other’s back as a comfort thing at times. They had a baby brother who she helped take care of, but he dies unfortunately and the grandmother more or less blames the girl. She runs off upset and takes a small boat somewhere I believe – but her brother tracks her down and convinces her she’s not at fault. It’s all I really remember – any help would be SO appreciated!

It’s a novel I read as a teenager, so in the early to mid 2000s, but it was an old copy of a book, so I think it was published in the 80s or 90s. It was a very thick paperback, dark cover. I remember very little about it even though I read it several times. The main character is a man and he ends up on an island, stranded it seems. Very few other characters, one male professor-type and a woman with whom he has sex in the ocean (it was not a YA novel, lol). It’s none of the obvious man-stuck-on-tropical-island books, but the ubiquity of that trope and my terrible memory have made it difficult to find. If this strikes a note in anyone’s memory, I’d really like to revisit this book and find out why I read it so much!

I read a book when I was around 10 that was a serialisation. I only read the first book and it ended with a dog being separated from its family while on holiday. I haven’t stopped thinking about whether the dog ever found its way back home ever since. The dog’s owner was a young boy, I can’t remember anything else unfortunately.

Hello! I’ve been searching for a book I read as a teen, maybe in the late 60’s or early 70’s. It was a dark take on the My Side of the Mountain books and featured a girl or young woman who flees to a mountain to live alone. I think she gets pregnant and has a baby. Sound familiar?

I’m looking for a book that I read in the late ’80s or very early ’90s. I got it in the children’s section of our local library and it was a relatively thin paperback. I don’t remember too much about it except for a little boy finds a stray dog in a field. It turns out that the dog is somewhat telepathic and is actually an alien. I don’t remember the details but I believe the boy helps save the dog from some bad forces who are searching for it. But this is about all I have. If you or your followers have any idea what this book might be I can’t tell you how much I would appreciate it

I’m not sure how old the book is since it was from my middle school reading teachers personal connection. I don’t remember much details but it was a long series focused on a couple of different characters. The most memorable were an ex soldier(? Or just a warrior?) who used the sword but gave it up to become a monk. Eventually some stuff happens and he becomes some hardcore warrior/killer again. The second memorable character I can think of is a big, muscular guy that wields a giant double sided axe. The only thing I remember about him was that in combat his comrades couldn’t get near him for fear of also getting diced in half (he seemed like a berserk type). There were some books in the series focused on the individuals story but one or two books I read included both characters.

I read this book in middle school about this teenage girl-boy romance. The girl was popular and the boy was not. He was also obsessed with birds throughout the entire novel. The girl had a younger sibling who she kept getting separated from, because of her parent’s divorce. She basically had a really bad home life and a lot of mental health issues. It was making her suicidal and super erratic. There’s one chapter where the girl strips in front of the boy during their first date. The boy was definitely the main character and I can’t remember if they ended up together. This story was old, definitely before 2000.

Around 2004 I read a book about a girl and her mother that lived in the middle of nowhere. Her mother is obsessed with a horrible storm that plagues the area, and invents a number of different suits to ‘beat the storm’ although it’s mostly in vain. One in particular is described as a rubber suit covered with heavy chains to keep her on the ground. Her mother almost dies in similar attempts many times. Possibly her Dad was killed in the storm. I know the title had the word ‘whale’ in it.
