About a daughter’s relationship with her mom (at least in part.) One of them might be named Violet? I remember them jokingly hitchhiking when the dad pulled up one day. I think the mom may have been mentally ill but I can’t remember finishing the book! I believe this book may be the same as 134 &/or 193.

I’m looking for a possible coming of age possibly published in the 80s or 90s about a young girl and the things I remember most is her having a little sister, and that she had a birthday where she got to get her ears pierced as well as a kayak/canoe from her dad, either the boat or the paddle was red and engraved and she was thrilled with it. She also often paddled out to this little mini island and there may have been something about glass somewhere? There’s one part where she comes down the stairs one morning after getting her ears pierced and her mom asks how they are. They’re res and throb a little and she either comments that it’s normal or says something else but I don’t remember it lasted long.

I think this book was part of a school book club.. it was a 1980s YA book about teen girl who dates a new boy who everyone likes. However he is inconsiderate and does not call her when he says he will. She goes away with his family and he and his father go out (Maybne fishing) and dont call or come home when they are supposed to. Sheis worried but the boys mom is not. When they finally arrive the boy and his father act like it is no big deal. She ask the mom how she feels and says that she is used to it and that parties hard but when her husband is in the room he makes everything fun so it is worth it. The girl decides this is not for her and breaks up with the boy. He doesn’t seem concerned and calls once after but she doesn’t answer. She later sees him dating another girl who looks at her triumphantly.

I’m looking for a young adult book about a boy who does photography. He’s bullied at school and he has a gallery of his photos at school. One day he walked in and his photo has a bunch of slurs scrawled across. Everyone in the room at the time Iof the incident goes to detention. It’s a group of diverse people like the popular girl, the jock, the nerd and the outcast. They slowly become friends. And at the end they find out it wasn’t anyone in the room but some other kids. Suggestion: Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

Maybe someone will remember this quirky book from the late 70s. It was about a teenaged girl who was having trouble fitting in with friends and at school, but who had a special relationship with her Italian grandfather at home who spoke no English. They lived in a tall apartment building in a big city and the girl had a lot of freedom and was fairly independent. After the grandfather loses one of his teeth, the girl, oddly, takes the tooth and puts it on a chain and wears it around her neck. Another time, the girl is upset about something and grabs a blanket and sleeps in the bathtub. Something bad maybe happens to her at school on Halloween. The title of the book may be the girl’s name, but not sure about this. The book was memorable to me because of it being somewhat different from most teen books of the time.

I am trying to locate a book that was written in the 1960s about a set of twins, June and Julia (one born on June 30th, the other July 1st). It was a mystery and I believe set in Australia. One thing I remember about it is there is an illustration of one of the sisters bending down to look at a Succulent – the first time I had every come across this word – and the name Succulent was part of a clue.
I think it was a female author whose name began with M – perhaps Margaret?

Trying to find a book that I read in the late 70’s??? I think the book was set in the 60’s maybe early 70’s. I think the book title was Kat and Me or Me and Kat maybe spelled with a c not sure. It was a coming of age book about a boy who was an outsider/rebel who lived with his mom. I think it was set during his senior year. He had a starling he had rescued that could talk. I think there was an actual cat in the book but it was also in reference to a girl he liked. She was popular and maybe he was tutoring her or something. I had got it from the library and it was a hardback book. In the end he left to go to the city. I can’t remember if the girl went with him or not. He might have been an artist.

I am looking for a book that I read in my highschool library, so I think it’s YA. It was a thin book (probably more or less 100 pages) with a beige cover, and it had a introduction/foreword that said that the book was an extremely popular coming of age novel in France but it wasn’t as much in English, even though it was originally written in English. It’s about a 10~12 year old boy falling in love with a girl and having sex with her in the meadows, but he is institutionalized when her parents find out. Neither of them understand what sex is. I think there was a scene where he writes to the girl on the padded walls of the solitary ward but I’m not sure.

Read this as a kid, a boy gets injured (I believe it was his arm) while either getting on or off of a train or trolley. Suggestion from Lost Classics Reader Janet: Henry Reed’s Journey by Keith Robertson
